Bus 'blows up' in Edinburgh city centre as passengers flee smoke-filled vehicle The Lothian Buses number three service filled with smoke with passengers evacuated from the vehicle after it came to a halt on Edinburgh’s Princes Street today Passengers had to be evacuated from a bus after the vehicle “blew up” in the middle of its route on Saturday. The passengers had to be escorted off the Lothian Buses number three service, after it came to a halt on Edinburgh’s Princes Street. Dramatic footage from the scene shows the drama unfolding as people were led off the bus after it filled up with smoke while travelling through the city centre. It's understood that nobody was injured, and no road closures were needed, Edinburgh Live reports. A man described how he witnessed the incident as he walked on the street and another punter claimed Princes Street is "cursed." The incident occurred on the same day Prince’s Street reopened to buses following a major fire. Huge flames were pictured ripping through the old Debenhams building on Princes Street in the early hours of July 9 after emergency crews were called at 2.52am. Residents across the Scottish capital reported being woken up by the smell of burning as the blaze devoured the historic city centre building. The road has been closed off ever since, with the main road only fully re-opened today. Trams and buses were able to travel up and down the street after "successful testing". Jack, who filmed the clip, said the bus "just blew up as he walked along the road". Sharing online, he added: "Passengers evacuated from a bus on Princes Street." A third posted: "I think Princes Street is cursed."
