A woman in her 70s has tragically died at an Aldi supermarket in Bath Road, Worcester, despite the desperate efforts of emergency services
A woman has died in front of horrified shoppers at an Aldi store with witnesses seeing an air ambulance land nearby and medics rushing towards the supermarket.
The tragic incident happened at the store on Bath Road, Worcester, with the woman found by medics in a critical condition. Despite the desperate efforts of emergency crews, there was nothing more that could be done.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene at around 3.15pm yesterday (Friday). Her death is not being treated as suspicious and police confirmed there was no third-party involvement.
A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "We received a call around 3.15pm yesterday afternoon (3 September) with concern for the welfare of a woman in Aldi on Bath Road in Worcester.
"Officers arrived, and despite the best efforts by emergency services, a woman in her 70s was sadly declared dead at the scene. Her death is not being treated as suspicious, with no third-party involvement."
West Midlands Ambulance Service said crews had been sent following reports of a medical incident.
A spokesman said: "We were called to a medical incident at an address on Bath Road in Worcester and sent an ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance to the scene. On arrival, a woman was found in a critical condition.
"Sadly, despite best efforts from crews, nothing could be done to save her, and she was confirmed dead at the scene."
Aldi said its colleagues had responded "immediately" in what were distressing circumstances.
An Aldi spokesperson said: "We are deeply saddened by this incident, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the customer at this incredibly difficult time.
"Our colleagues responded immediately to the situation, and we are incredibly proud of our team for their swift actions in such distressing circumstances. We are offering support to the colleagues affected."
