The latest Avatar: Seven Havens trailer gives us a deeper dive into the characters and story It's also pretty easy on the eyes. We are less than a month away from the premiere of a brand new show in the Avatar-verse, which is happening 12 full years after The Legend of Korra ended its run. Avatar: Seven Havens starts streaming via Paramount+ on October 9 and we finally have a real beefy trailer to get us pumped. We got some footage back in July, but that was more of a teaser. This is nearly three minutes of the show, complete with character voices and plenty of hints as to where the story is going. The animation also looks very nice, which is typical for the franchise. The story looks steeped in post-apocalyptic flavor. Something bad happened after the events of The Legend of Korra and the world is in shambles, forcing survivors to retreat to the titular seven havens. As a matter of fact, Korra is being blamed for these events (which is on brand) so public sentiment has shifted negatively toward the entire concept of Avatars. Enter Avatar Pavi, a young girl who will likely have to go on the run once people figure out her identity. She has a twin sister, which could be setting up some wild spirit world shenanigans. Just like the other shows, she has a friend group that (hopefully) has her back. For the uninitiated, this franchise started with Avatar: The Last Airbender more than 20 years ago. Each of the following shows introduces a new Avatar, after the previous one has died. It's a Dalai Lama type of thing, but with element-based superpowers. The Legend of Korra was set a full 70 years after the first one. The showrunners of Seven Havens, including franchise co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino, recently confirmed to Polygon that it takes place a full 200 years after Korra. That likely means we won't be getting older versions of supporting Korra characters, like the bad-ass grandma Toph and old-man Zuko in that series. How did Korra live that long? We'll find out, though it's not unheard of in the lore. The first three episodes drop on October 9, with the show following a weekly release schedule after that. It's already been renewed, so two 13-episode seasons are coming our way. This has been a busy year for the franchise. We just got a movie that followed the adult version of Avatar Aang. It was pretty awesome, even if it did leak in its entirety online months before it came out. The second season of the live-action Netflix show also dropped earlier this year, with a third and final one on the way. [Image text:] AVATAR:SEVEN HAVENS Paramount+
