Stacey Humphreys, 53, is to be executed for the killings next week. The Georgia death row inmate has asked for a meal including barbecue items, fried food and two different types of ice cream before he is put to death for the murders of two real estate agents in an Atlanta suburb more than two decades ago. According to the Georgia Department of Corrections he asked for his last meal to consist of barbecue beef brisket, pork ribs, a bacon double cheeseburger, French fries, buffalo wings and a meat lovers pan pizza. For dessert, he asked for two flavors of ice cream, butter pecan and peach. Alongside the meal, the inmate asked for two caffeine-free sodas to wash it all down. On September 16 at 7pm, Humphreys is set to receive a lethal injection at the state prison near Jackson. However, he has recently filed a motion for a new sentencing trial, which remains pending. If denied, he will be the first person executed in Georgia since March 2024, as the executions have been paused in the state over an agreement related to the coronavirus pandemic. Previously, Humphreys was scheduled to be put to death last December, but the execution was delayed after his lawyers filed a petition asking a judge to order two members of the State Board of Pardons and Paroles to recuse themselves from hearing his clemency petition. He was convicted of the 2003 murders of real estate agents Cyndi Williams, 33, and Lori Brown, 21. He shot the women dead at a sales office in a model home for a new subdivision in Powder Springs, a suburb about 20 miles northwest of Atlanta on November 3, 2003. He forced them to strip naked and give him their bank PINs before shooting them to death around midday. Court documents show he took the women's driver's licenses and bank and credit cards, and withdrew more than $3,000 from their accounts. In police interviews following their deaths he told officers he had recently taken out some high-interest payday loans and needed money for a payment on his truck. Humphreys has been released from prison 13 months earlier and on parole for a 1993 felony theft conviction. He was sentenced to death after a jury found him guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and kidnapping with bodily injury. On August 28, his attorneys filed a motion in Cobb County Court for a new sentencing trial, claiming juror misconduct during his initial sentencing. The judge is yet to have made a ruling but if he sides with Humphreys he could be allowed a new sentencing trial and the chance to overturn his death sentence.
