Firefighters are at Dalton Mills, a disused building in Keighley which is ablaze with a cordon and road closure in place. Residents are being urged by police to keep their windows and doors closed due to the smoke while Dalton Lane is closed to all traffic. A statement from West Yorkshire Police reads: "Please be aware that Dalton Mills are currently on fire. Dalton Lane in Keighley is currently closed to all traffic, as our colleagues from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are working to bring the situation under control. "We advise people to stay away from the area, and residents in the vicinity to keep all doors and windows closed." The site has suffered a handful of major fires over the last four years. More than 100 firefighters battled a blaze in March 2022. Another major fire broke out at the mill in July 2025 with 12 fire engines sent to the scene. The site also suffered a serious fire in 2011. Local councillor Caroline Firth said that the fire was a "disaster" for Keighley. She said on Facebook: "I'm here at Dalton Mills who I want to support as it is too dangerous for pedestrians but this is a disaster for Keighley. This mill could have been saved by now, something I've been fighting for. "There is a mechanism to do it and I call on Reform to enact this mechanism. We had someone waiting in the wings to take this building on and regenerate it. I call on the council to treat this site the priority it deserves."
