Kevin Sinfield reveals secret MND charity run weapons include ice baths and special pants Ice baths, 'pressure pants' and detailed training plans are among the key aids to Sir Kevin Sinfield's success. But the enduring love from the public and the generosity of his donors are what really keep him going Sir Kevin Sinfield will use a series of 'secret weapons' in his superhuman fundraising feats for MND research. Ice baths, 'pressure pants' and detailed training plans are among the key aids to his success. But the enduring love from the public and the generosity of his donors are what really keep him going. The modest hero revealed yesterday that he thinks of winning the EuroMillions when times get really tough during his ultramarathons. He has seven lined up in seven days for the last of his epic fundraisers in memory of his former teammate Rob Burrow, who died from Motor Neurone Disease in 2024, four-and-a-half years after his devastating diagnosis. Sir Kev uses ice baths at the end of every run to aid his recovery. His 'pressure pants' look like a sleeping bag on each leg. They are designed to reduce the lactic acid buildup that causes cramps during such feats of endurance. And his training and recovery plans have extraordinary attention to detail. "During his playing career, Kevin was renowned for his comebacks from injury," said a team insider. "He would set his alarm through the night if he needed to ice an injury and get up and do it. He would do anything to get on the pitch. He has brought that same attention to detail to his fundraising runs." Sir Kevin, who admits that he 'does not like running', only started to cover long distances thanks to his training partner Chris Stephenson. Chris persuaded Sir Kev to try a 10k in Brisbane, Australia. And the rest, as they say, is fundraising history. The rugby league legend has raised more than £11million for Motor Neurone Disease research in honour of his old Leeds Rhinos team mate Rob. His 'compression' pants cut down on lactic acid build up and stiffness after his 30-mile daily runs. But the support from the crowds of well-wishers, MND patients and their families is what really keeps him going. "The support from the volunteers and people coming out to see us, the team, has been incredible," he said. "And all the experiences in rugby, getting dropped, getting injured. I don't talk about it but those values, support and training have helped me a lot. "There is so much work that goes into it before you arrive on the start line for Day One, anyone who has trained for a marathon will tell you that."
