Florida man says he accidentally shot his wife and their 4-year-old daughter while cleaning his gun The 4-year-old girl was airlifted to a hospital for treatment for her injuries, authorities said - Bookmark - CommentsGo to comments Authorities are investigating after a Florida man said he accidentally shot his 4-year-old daughter and wife at their Deltona home over the weekend. The man told police that he was trying to clear his handgun before going to a shooting range when it accidentally discharged just before 10 a.m. on Saturday, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. When authorities arrived, the father was carrying his daughter, who had “obvious injuries to her chest and arm,” the sheriff’s office said. The mother was found inside the home with a “towel on her gunshot wound to her leg,” authorities added. Both the mom and daughter were conscious and alert, authorities said. First responders provided care, applying tourniquets to both the victims, as well as a chest seal on the little girl. The girl was airlifted to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer while the mother was taken to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital. The father told authorities that he was getting ready to go to the shooting range when his gun fired, with one shot hitting both his wife and their daughter. “The facts and evidence gathered during the investigation support an accidental gunshot,” the sheriff’s office said. The little girl and mother’s conditions were not immediately known Sunday. The Independent has contacted the Volusia Sheriff’s Office for more information.
