New Lidl £19 'sunrise' gadget to 'wake up better' and not feel groggy out Sunday The gadget also comes with seven different sounds to choose from and 10 different brightness levels As the autumn weather sets in and mornings grow increasingly darker, with the clocks going back an hour in a few weeks, supermarket chain Lidl is introducing a budget-friendly solution to help shoppers wake up more naturally. From Sunday, September 27, the retailer's popular middle aisle will be updated with a range of new 'Home and Living' items. One standout gadget coming out this weekend is the Livarno Sunrise Alarm Clock, priced at £18.99. Designed to mimic a natural dawn, the clock provides an affordable alternative to high-end wellness devices on the market, which often cost upwards of £50. The core feature of the Livarno model is its sunrise simulation. Starting 30 minutes before the scheduled wake-up time, the clock emits a "warm white light" that gradually increases in intensity. This slow-brightening cycle is said to signal the body's internal biological clock to reduce melatonin production, allowing users to gently transition from deep sleep to consciousness without a sudden, jarring noise. Lidl says: "Natural light alarm clock for a more natural wake-up. Sunrise simulation with a warm white light – 30 minutes before the alarm sounds. Seven alarm sounds to choose from. Choice of 10 brightness and 15 volume settings. LCD display (liquid crystal display) with backlighting." Health experts note that 'sunrise' alarms can significantly improve morning energy and reduce sleep inertia during the darker months. Studies show that this results in a smoother, less stressful biological transition into consciousness, significantly improving morning energy levels. Sleep inertia is the temporary state of grogginess, disorientation, and reduced mental performance that happens right after you wake up. Most episodes last between 15 and 30 minutes. In addition to the visual alarm, the device offers seven distinct audio options. Users can choose between standard electronic beeps or natural sounds, including birdsong, a flowing stream, rain showers, ocean waves, a frog croaking, and a cuckoo. The clock also includes a built-in snooze function. As well as 15 adjustable volume levels, and 10 distinct brightness settings, enabling customisation according to personal sensitivity. While the clock is highly effective for mornings, it is less effective for bedtime routines. Unlike premium competitors, the Livarno Sunrise Alarm Clock lacks a dedicated "sunset" dimming mode to help users wind down and fall asleep at night. The light function also relies entirely on a continuous connection to a mains adapter. This means that the included AA batteries function strictly as a data backup during power cuts rather than a primary power source.
