The man, Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, spent the night in ICE detention with the bullet lodged in his back. His lawyer says he is being treated at a hospital for paralysis on his left side. Mr Perez, 28, said he was working as a DoorDash food delivery driver when agents sideswiped his car, and he said they did not identify themselves or turn on any lights or siren. Austin police said that he ran from agents. Mr Perez said that an agent shot him while he was inside his vehicle and there was no foot chase. The Department of Homeland Security denied that Mr Perez was forced to sleep on the floor at the detention center, and also said that he had been receiving pain medications and other medical treatment. The department said it was investigating the shooting of a Venezuelan man in the US illegally who “had a final order of removal.”
