Urgent recall and 'do not open' warning issued for popular beer over risk of 'cans exploding' The Food Standards Agency says the beer cans should not be opened, need to be handled very carefully, and disposed of correctly as they pose an injury risk to drinkers A popular low-alcohol beer is subject to an urgent recall over fears cans could explode and 'cause injury'. Lucky Saint, the producer 0.5 percent alcohol beer s including 'unfiltered lager', 'lemon lager', and 'lime and sea salt lager plus electrolytes', is one of the biggest low-alcohol beer companies in the UK. However, it has had to recall one of its most popular products - the Hazy IPA. An alert issued by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) on Wednesday said it's because the cans may explode and injure drinkers. The FSA notice said: “Lucky Saint is recalling Hazy IPA products because some cans may become over-pressurised and rupture unexpectedly.” Specifically, the beer which is being pulled from the shelves is Lucky Saint’s 0.5 percent Hazy IPA which comes in a pack of 4 x 330ml cans and has a best before date of August 13, 2027. The FSA said “there is a risk that the cans may explode which may cause injury”. Shoppers at stores which sell the cans will see notices about the food recall alert stating: “We are recalling Lucky Saint 0.5% Hazy IPA 4 x 330ml because some cans may become over-pressurised. This can cause cans to swell, leak or rupture unexpectedly, presenting a risk of physical injury.” They are warned “do not drink it or open it”. Shoppers can seek a refund with proof of purchase and the notice also advises them to safely dispose of the cans and not to return them to the store. It states that “to safely dispose of the product; handle the cans as little as possible, place them carefully, upright, in a sealed bag and dispose of them with your household waste”.
