Kate Middleton issues message on 'recovery' as she hosts Three Peaks fundraisers at tea party The Princess of Wales welcomed a small group of people who, like her, had completed the Three Peaks Challenge for a special event at Windsor Castle The Princess of Wales has said "recovery is a journey we rarely make alone", after hosting a special tea party for a ‘remarkable’ group of people who, like her, have completed the Three Peaks Challenge. Kate welcomed them to Windsor Castle last week, with many of them people she met when she carried out the gruelling feat of endurance this summer. The princess invited the group as a way for them to share their stories of resilience and hearing the personal reasons for taking on the challenge. In a clip released by Kensington Palace, Kate, in a dark red dress, can be seen chatting with participants over sandwiches, tea and cake, before they all posed for a group photo. In a personal message on social media, she wrote: “It was a pleasure to welcome other Three Peaks Challenge participants and their families to Windsor Castle. Behind every summit was a personal story of resilience, determination and hope. “Listening to their experiences of the challenge and their reasons for taking it on was a powerful reminder that recovery is rarely a journey we make alone, and of the importance of the people who walk alongside us along the way. C” Kate undertook the charity climb back in June, which sees participants attempt to scale the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours. She did it to raise funds to build a new specialist centre for Holistic Wellbeing and Recovery as part of a £200million development at the Royal Marsden Hospital, where she received her cancer treatment. At the tea party last week, was 11-year-old Ted Haslam from Sutton Coldfield, who Kate ran into several times during the challenge. Ted completed the Three Peaks Challenge while being pushed and carried in his wheelchair by his father, Pete, and 15 family members and friends, raising money for children's charity Molly Ollys - with Kate making a donation to the cause. They were joined by Sean McCormick, whom the princess also met at the beginning of her challenge this summer. Sean was part of a group raising money for his friend's nephew, who had been diagnosed with cancer. Also at the tea part was Albie-Junior Thomas, who completed the challenge in August in around 22 hours to raise money for his local football club. Albie-Junior was born without a fibula, and his foot was amputated when he was a toddler. Meanwhile, Trish Patterson completed her mammoth Three Peaks Challenge just a few days after the Princess's challenge this summer. Trish ran between each peak, and broke the existing record by nine hours and raised money for Mind Over Mountains, an organisation Kate met earlier this year, in memory of her close friend. Earlier this month while visiting the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, Kate told staff the Three Peaks Challenge had been "my small way" of being able to thank them for the "incredible" treatment she received. She told them as she looked at plans for a new holistic care centre there: “I had incredible care here and support from a huge team and I'm really really grateful on a personal level. But also the holistic care, the treatments and therapeutic support alongside the clinical pathway is so important. It makes a big difference. "The impact of nature, the impact of good nutrition, good ongoing support around you when it's really difficult to manage the trials and tribulations of medical treatments... it makes a big difference. It made a big difference to me and it made a huge difference lots of patients who I've spoken to. Thank you and well done because I think it will be transformative not only for patients but for families too."
