UK weather maps show temperatures plunging to 3C with 60 counties below 10C Despite weather forecasters predicting warm conditions for the rest of this month, data and models now suggest October could bring a cold spell to the UK Weather forecasting models suggest daytime temperatures could plunge below 10C across much of the UK next month. Temperature anomaly maps for October 9 and October 10 show the entire country shaded in blue. This indicates that the mercury is expected to drop well below the seasonal average. The GFS weather model shows temperatures may plunge as low as 4C in northern Scotland on October 9 at midday, with just 8C coming in the Central Belt. Northern England could drop to 7C, as could Northern Ireland and North Wales. Temperatures could then drop to just 3C in northern parts of Scotland at midday on October 10, with just 5C over higher ground in the far north of England. The data suggests that even in the south-east, the mercury will struggle to rise much past 10C. In total, the data shows 60 counties could see midday temperatures below 10C during this cold spell. They are in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, northern England and the Midlands. Its forecast for October 10 to October 24 states: “Initially, high pressure may be centred to the north or northeast, with longer drier periods more likely across northern UK, whilst low pressure to the southwest brings occasional rain or showers into more southern and western parts. “Towards and beyond mid-October, it may turn more widely unsettled with a greater chance of wet and windy conditions at times.” BBC Weather forecast BBC Weather says October could bring a range of different scenarios. Although temperatures may remain above the long-term average overall, there could also be colder periods. The BBC forecast states: "There could be drier and calmer period at some point in the first or second week of the month, with high pressure exerting greater influence for a while. When nights are clear and still there could be a higher chance of fog patches and chillier conditions. "By the middle of October, however, there are indications of low pressure dominating, so wetter and windier weather is most likely to return."
