Family pay tribute to ‘talented’ boy, 16, who died after car crashed into tree in Defford Oscar Mason was pronounced dead at the scene of the horror car crash in Defford earlier this month The heartbroken family of a 16-year-old have paid tribute to their “talented” son after he died when the car he was travelling in crashed into a tree. Oscar Mason was riding in the passenger seat when the car smashed into a tree off the carriageway of the A4104 at Defford at around 9.20pm on September 12. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other passengers, aged 16 and 17, suffered minor injuries. In a touching tribute, Oscar's parents have described their eldest son as the "best big brother" who was "incredibly intelligent and talented". They said in a statement: "Oscar was truly the most amazing boy. He was smart, caring and always willing to help others. “His cheekiness and playful nature were what everybody knew him for. No matter what life threw at him, he always had a big, beautiful smile on his face. “With his quirky and curious personality, there was always a question for everything. You could rely on him to say it exactly how it is, and being unapologetically Oscar was simply who he was. “He was incredibly intelligent and talented, with the ability to succeed in any sport he tried. But it was judo that captured his heart. He loved every minute of it and couldn't wait to come home and tell us about his lessons, competitions and the medals he was so proud to win. “As the eldest of six boys, Oscar's greatest achievement was being a big brother and wanting to lead them through life. Nothing brought him more happiness than his brothers. He loved them fiercely, and they absolutely idolised him. Our hearts break knowing they have lost the best big brother they could ever have wished for. “Oscar made us parents and gave us all those precious childhood firsts. Those memories will stay with us forever. “We'll miss his mischievous giggle when he was up to no good, seeing his face appear through the glass door when he came home, the cuddles before bed, and the 'sweet dreams, sleep tight, I love you’s.' “He will be remembered for his infectious energy, his love for life, and the happiness he brought to everyone around him. Forever sixteen, forever loved, our beautiful boy.” West Mercia Police said an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs. He remains on police bail as the investigation continues.
