Brighton beach tragedy with man found dead after public spotted 'person at water's edge' Police were called to Rottingdean Beach in Brighton this morning after concerns were raised for the welfare of a man who had been seen at the water's edge A man has been found dead by a passerby on a popular beach path in Brighton. Police were called to Rottingdean Beach at around 9.40am this morning after concerns were raised for the welfare of a man who had been seen at the water's edge. Emergency services raced to the area, but despite their best efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are now underway to establish the man's identity and how he came to be in the water, Sussex Police said. A cordon remains in place on the beach this afternoon. Rottingdean Beach is a shingle beach set below white chalk cliffs on the East Sussex coast. The beach is located just minutes from the historic village centre of Rottingdean and a short distance along the coast from Brighton. A Sussex Police spokesperson said: "At around 9.40am on Sunday (October 11), officers responded to concerns for the welfare of a man who had been seen at the water’s edge on Rottingdean beach. "The man was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene, and enquiries remain ongoing to establish his identity and the circumstances of how he came to be in the water. "Emergency services continue to work in the area, and no further information is available at this time."
