Polish police arrested a man accused of calling for the murder of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and parliament speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty, the government said Tuesday, marking the second arrest in connection to threats against senior politicians in three days.
Police detained the 46-year-old suspect Monday in Oborniki, western Poland, government spokesperson Adam Szłapka said on X.
Prosecutors charged him Tuesday with inciting murder and insulting Tusk, Czarzasty and an unnamed journalist at public broadcaster TVP Info, local prosecutor Katarzyna Sill-Szułczyńska said on RMF FM radio.
The man also faces charges of insulting Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, former President Lech Wałęsa and Krzysztof Paszyk, a lawmaker from Tusk’s governing coalition.
The suspect allegedly posted messages calling for the killings on Facebook and TikTok between Aug. 3 and Oct. 7, according to TVP Info.
The detention follows Sunday’s arrest of a man suspected of planning an attack on Tusk and Kosiniak-Kamysz.
That case began with a warning received by the State Protection Service and prompted an emergency meeting of police, government protection officers and the Internal Security Agency.
“In this case, we are talking about a strong probability that these threats could have been acted upon,” security services spokesperson Jacek Dobrzyński said Sunday.
Authorities have not established a link between the two suspects or suggested specific motives.
