'I'm a menopause expert - I swear by this quick trick to feel better' Perimenopause and menopause symptoms can feel overwhelming, but help is at hand. Ahead of World Menopause Day, Georgina Donnelly of Spirit 19 Yoga and Wellness menopause yoga club shares her top tips to feel empowered World Menopause Day is Sunday 18th October — so what better time to start a conversation about menopause? You don't need to spend a fortune, follow every piece of advice on social media or completely overhaul your life. For me, it's about simple changes, listening to my body and finding what works for me. Here are 5 simple ways to feel more empowered through menopause. MOVE — find exercise you love Exercise doesn't have to mean an expensive gym membership or punishing workouts. For me, discovering Yin Yoga and Reformer Pilates has made a real difference. One helps me slow down and stretch, while the other helps me build strength and feel good in my body. Find something you enjoy — because you're far more likely to keep doing it. EAT — nourish your body Instead of spending a fortune on lots of supplements, start by looking at what's on your plate. Adding more vegetables, fruit, wholegrains, protein and calcium-rich foods to your everyday meals is a simple way to support your health. Small changes to your food can make a big difference. REST — make time for yourself We're often so busy looking after everyone else that we forget ourselves. Whether it's a walk, reading a book, a bath whilst listening to a podcast (a highlight for me!) or simply enjoying a cup of tea, give yourself permission to pause. Rest isn't selfish — it's self-care. ASK — don't suffer in silence Talk to your GP about your symptoms and don't be afraid to ask questions. Go prepared with a list of your symptoms and make a few notes beforehand so you don't forget anything you want to discuss. Ask for a blood test, including checking your hormone levels. You know your body best, so don't be afraid to speak up and ask for the support you need. Understanding what's happening to your body can be incredibly empowering. TALK — don't let social media overwhelm you There is so much menopause advice online that it can quickly become overwhelming. One minute you're scrolling, the next you're wondering whether you need a cupboard full of supplements! Step away from the screen and talk to other women, family and friends. You'd be surprised how many people have been through it, are going through it or simply understand what you're experiencing. Sharing experiences, having a laugh and knowing you're not alone can make a huge difference. Menopause is a new chapter You don't need an expensive wellness regime or a complete lifestyle overhaul. Move. Eat well. Rest. Ask questions. Talk. Find what works for you, take care of yourself and remember — you don't have to navigate menopause alone.
