UK drinks giant supplying Tesco and Asda collapses into administration after 27 years The firm supplied major supermarkets including Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's with popular wine, beer and spirit brands A major UK alcohol wholesaler has collapsed into administration after racking up losses exceeding £21.1 million. The firm, the UK arm of the Luxembourg -based company, has shut down after nearly 27 years of trading. Amber Beverage Group UK, headquartered in London, supplied numerous UK supermarkets with well-known wine, beer and spirit brands, including Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Waitrose and Co-op. Founded in 1999, ABG UK (formerly known as Cellar Trends) was bought by the Luxembourg-based Amber Beverage Group in 2018. It served all sectors of the UK drinks industry, distributing 60 international brands to retailers nationwide. After 27 years of operation, the business stopped trading and submitted a notice to the High Court. Administrators from the accounting firm BDO LLP were appointed on October 19. The move came following failed attempts to find a buyer for the company. According to the Spirits Business, ABG UK last lodged accounts with Companies House in January 2026, revealing losses of more than £21.1 million for the year ended December 31, 2024, reports the Express. ABG UK's portfolio included Moskovskaya Vodka, Rooster Rojo Tequila, KAH Tequila, The Irishman Whiskey, Writers' Tears Whiskey, Riga Black Balsam, Cross Keys Gin, alongside Cosmopolitan Diva. According to The Herald Scotland, the vast majority of the firm's 27 members of staff have been made redundant with immediate effect, while a small number have been retained on a temporary basis to assist with the administration process. A spokesperson for BDO told The Herald: "Prior to the appointment of administrators, efforts were made to sell the business as a going concern, but this proved not to be possible." BDO LLP has been approached for comment.
