Hospital locked down after man, 27, stabbed to death and three injured in Nice University Hospital of Nice was placed under lockdown after a 27-year-old man was stabbed to death and three people were injured. A hospital in southern France was placed under lockdown after a 27-year-old man was stabbed to death this afternoon. The Nice University Hospital is currently under lockdown, and two suspects are believed to be inside the building, according to local media reports. Nice-matin reports that a man was taken to the hospital along with two other injured people, also suffering stab wounds. "Due to the exceptional situation, the emergency department of the Pasteur 2 hospital at the University Hospital of Nice is temporarily subject to a lockdown measure," the hospital announced at around 4:30 p.m. on its Facebook page. According to Nice-matin, the situation on the hospital's forecourt became tense as several dozen people occupied the area. Access to the emergency room was blocked before the hospital's assault alarm was triggered by the presence of an individual carrying a machete. This man was reportedly apprehended and no staff members were injured, the local outlet said. According to other local reports, two of the young man's attackers were inside the hospital searching for the two injured men. One of the suspects was reportedly armed with a sword. Numerous national police reinforcements are said to be on site and are asking people to avoid the area. The context and circumstances of the violence in the city which sparked the hospital incident remains "to be clarified," and an investigation has been opened "particularly for aggravated murder," the local prosecutor's office stated. The events took place in the early afternoon in the Louis Braille/Fenoglio district, in eastern Nice, a few hundred meters from the University Hospital. The district has faced ongoing security challenges in recent years with violent turf wars and retaliatory shootings linked to local drug trafficking networks. News outlet ici.fr reported that the ward as locked down "as police feared the violence in the neighbourhood might spread to the hospital." This is a Breaking News story.
