Met Office issues new ‘danger to life’ warning for 42 areas after weekend of storm chaos A fresh yellow weather warning for wind has been issued after a weekend of wild weather, with Storm Boelo leaving two people dead and 160,000 without power The UK is braced for another battering, with the Met Office issuing a fresh 70mph warning in the wake of Storms Austen and Boelo. It comes after a weekend of wild weather, with two storms in three days bringing gusts of more than 80mph and torrential downpours across large parts of the country. Storm Boelo left two people dead and 160,000 without power as wild weather now threatens to return on Tuesday. A yellow weather warning for wind is in place from 3am to midnight, covering parts of Northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Brits are warned to expect travel disruption, damage to buildings and a risk of injuries from flying debris, with a small chance of danger to life. "Gusts of 50-60mph are possible quite widely and some coastal or exposed areas could see gusts of 70mph or more, but at this time there is some uncertainty in where, and how strong, the peak gusts will be," the Met Office warns. Heavy winds are also threatening to leave homes without power, with those in the firing line urged to prepare an emergency kit containing torches, batteries, mobile phone power packs and other essentials. Brits in coastal areas should "be aware of large waves," as "even from the shore large breaking waves can sweep you off your feet and out to sea," the Met Office says. It comes as the Environment Agency issued 10 flood warnings with a further 64 areas warned flooding is possible. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency said 4 flood warnings and 11 flood alerts were in place. Heavy rain and winds will continue to batter parts of the UK today, the Met Office said. Meteorologist Alex Burkill said that while conditions are set to improve on Monday, more rain and wind will arrive on Tuesday. "There are more heavy rain and strong winds to come because of a deepening area of low pressure – another one – which is heading towards us," he said. "All be it, this low doesn’t look as deep or is coming quiet as close as Boelo did." The Met Office forecast for today reads: "On Monday rain will sweep northeast across the UK, with strengthening winds bringing gales in the west later. After a cold start for some, it will feel increasingly mild in the west." Over the weekend, a 60-year-old man was killed by a falling tree in Dumfries, Scotland, while another man in his 20s died after a tree struck him while he was in a moving car in Finchley.
