BBC Weather issues verdict on where snow may fall in the UK in November BBC Weather forecasters say conditions will likely turn chilly towards the end of next week, and showers could turn wintry in some parts of the UK Wintry showers and snow could be on the cards in some parts of the UK this month. Weather forecasting models have already started showing some snow falling in the latter half of November, with chilly temperatures expected too. The ECMWF weather model suggests daytime temperatures could plunge to -4C in some areas on Friday. The Met Office has said we could see the earliest major stratospheric warming event in history over the coming days. The weather phenomenon, caused by temperatures rising well above the Earth’s surface, means cold air rushes downwards and often leads to cold snaps in the UK. BBC Weather forecast for next week BBC Weather forecasters say the first half of next week will be “dominated by a relatively weak high pressure system” centred over Scotland, leading to “dry weather” but with “extensive banks of cloud”. This should also lead to “chillier” conditions. Much of England and Wales will likely “turn wet, milder and breezier at times” from Wednesday, the BBC forecast adds, while Scotland and Northern Ireland “could be drier and brighter for a day or so”. However, “a colder north to north-westerly flow of winds is likely to develop” before the weekend. Despite this leading to “drier and sunnier conditions spreading southwards”, there will still be some showers “blowing across windward areas”. BBC Weather says these showers “could be wintry” over higher ground in Scotland and northern England. BBC Weather forecast for November 16 to 22 For the subsequent week, BBC Weather says “periods of wet and windy weather” are on the cards, “interspersed with brighter but showery interludes”. “It should be a relatively mild seven days, with temperatures more likely to be above normal than below for the week,” the forecast states. “However, there will be day-to-day variability, with some transient chillier conditions in between weather systems, especially across the northern UK, where there could be some fleeting wintriness in showers over higher ground.”
