Fixing in IPL? Lalit Modi says 'they're fixing in cricket', but not sure about IPL

Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has claimed that match-fixing continues to exist in cricket, though he stopped short of making any allegations against the Indian Premier League (IPL), saying the tournament has become too lucrative for players to risk their careers. Modi, who has been residing primarily in London since leaving India in May 2010, spoke on a range of subjects during Wisden Cricket's podcast The Scoop, including corruption and match-fixing in cricket. When asked whether...

Fixed Budget is No Harder Than Fixed Confidence in Best-Arm Identification up to Logarithmic Factors

arXiv:2602.03972v3 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: The best-arm identification (BAI) problem is one of the most fundamental problems in interactive machine learning, which has two flavors: the fixed-budget setting (FB) and the fixed-confidence setting (FC). For $K$-armed bandits with a unique best arm, the optimal sample complexities for both settings have been settled down, and they match up to logarithmic factors. This prompts an interesting research question about the generic,...

After $7 billion in losses, Boeing and the Air Force claim refueling tanker plane is finally fixed

After $7 billion in losses, Boeing and the Air Force claim refueling tanker plane is finally fixed Boeing and the Air Force have spent years trying to fix the tanker's remote vision system (RVS), critical for midair refueling with its boom - Bookmark - CommentsGo to comments The U.S. Air Force is confident a fix has been found for long-running troubles with a key system on Boeing's KC-46 aerial refueling tanker, Air Force Secretary Troy Meink told a Senate subcommittee on Tuesday. Boeing and...

Fixed-Point Masked Generative Modeling

new Abstract: Masked Generative Models (MGMs) enable parallel decoding and achieve strong performance across modalities, but require full-sequence bidirectional transformers at every step, making training costly and degrading quality under low sampling budgets. Existing work improves efficiency via better samplers or cheaper fixed-depth denoisers, but they still allocate a fixed amount of denoiser computation to each refinement step. We introduce Fixed-Point Masked Generative Models...

Astronauts briefly take shelter during repair to fix leak on the International Space Station

Astronauts briefly take shelter during repair to fix leak on the International Space Station Andrew Zinin Lead Editor NASA on Friday temporarily ordered astronauts to take shelter during repairs to fix a fresh leak aboard the International Space Station. The five astronauts moved into the SpaceX capsule that is docked at the station while cosmonauts worked to fix the leak, which is on the Russian side of the orbiting laboratory. The decision was made "out of an abundance of caution," NASA...

A Lyapunov-Based Small-Gain Theorem for Fixed-Time Stability

arXiv:2511.23474v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: This paper introduces a novel Lyapunov-based small-gain methodology for establishing fixed-time stability (FxTS) guarantees in interconnected dynamical systems. Specifically, we consider interconnections in which each subsystem admits an individual fixed-time input-to-state stability (ISS) Lyapunov function that certifies FxT-ISS. We then show that if a nonlinear small-gain condition is satisfied, then the entire interconnected system is FxTS.

Astronauts on International Space Station take shelter in SpaceX Dragon as cosmonauts try to fix air leak

Astronauts on International Space Station take shelter in SpaceX Dragon as cosmonauts try to fix air leak NASA ordered five astronauts on the International Space Station to take shelter in an attached SpaceX Dragon spacecraft today while Russian cosmonauts tried to fix a concerning air leak on the orbiting lab. "Out of an abundance of caution, NASA has directed all four of the agency's SpaceX Crew-12 members and NASA astronaut Chris Williams to assume an elevated safety posture in the Dragon...

Fixed Universal Transformers

arXiv:2605.31423v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: We introduce \emph{universal transformers}: fixed transformers that can simulate any transformer in a given class via a suitable input embedding. Analogous to a universal Turing machine, the input embedding encodes a description of the target model while all internal parameters remain fixed. We provide explicit sparse constructions achieving universality when the embedding dimension is sufficiently large, and further show that universality is...

Tuning Dispatch Thresholds for Fixed Last-Mile Routes: A Simulation-Based Pareto Analysis of a Production Policy

arXiv:2606.09455v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Many parcel networks dispatch vehicles on \emph{fixed routes} using a simple load-accumulation rule: a truck leaves the depot for a fixed route as soon as the volume (or item count) waiting for that route crosses a threshold. The threshold is usually parameterised as an affine function of route length, $\tau_r=\beta+\gamma\,d_r$, and the pair $(\beta,\gamma)$ is chosen once and frozen into production. This paper studies how good that frozen...
