Sergiu Leahu, 40, is charged with the murder of Masum Miah, 42, who was found with gunshot wounds in a car in East Ham on 18 August. Officers were called to St Bartholomew’s Road at about 3am following reports of gunshots, and Mr Miah was pronounced dead at the scene. Leahu, of no fixed address, was charged with murder and will appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday. Detective Chief Inspector Dan Whitten, who is leading the Metropolitan Police investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with Masum’s family as they come to terms with his tragic death. “We are continuing to appeal to anyone with information that could assist our inquiries to come forward. “We are specifically appealing for anyone who saw a black Nissan Duke in the vicinity of St Bartholomew’s Road between the evening of Monday August 17 and the early hours of Tuesday August 18”. Police said Mr Miah’s family are being supported by specially trained officers. The entirety of St Bartholomew’s Road was cordoned off on Tuesday and a police evidence tent could be seen behind a white Toyota Prius, which had crashed into a black Range Rover. DCI Whitten added: “If you were in the area at the time of the shooting, witnessed anything suspicious, or have any dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage that could support our investigation, we urge you to get in touch. “No matter how big or small the information you have is, it could prove vital in helping us piece together the full circumstances”.
